Penarth Town 0-3 St Athan

Kieran Ashton starred as Saints collected all three points against Penarth. Ashton bagged a double before Nathan Williams’ bullet header completed the victory.

Saints came into the game without talisman Jordan Mortimore, keeper James Andrews and Jake Sutch from their previous game. As a result captain Nicky Cox stepped up to go between the sticks.

In a drab first half chances were few and far between as Saints saw two efforts from club stalwart Craig Howells just wide of the mark.

St Athan however took the lead right before half time as Kieran Ashton struck to put Saints in front with a smart finish.

Saints started the second half better and youngsters Seth Talbot and Leow Morris looked to make an impact with both having efforts narrowly wide.

St Athan doubled their lead mid way through the half with Kieran Ashton converting a cross clinically.

Talbot continued to cause problems and saw a low effort well saved by the Penarth keeper before having one chalked off for offside.

Saints soon confirmed all three points as Talbot’s pin point corner saw Williams rise to head in for his second Saints goal of the season.

The win moves St Athan six points ahead of FC Barry Belgrade, although Belgrade have a mammoth five games in hand. Saints know all they can do is try to win their games and hope results go their way in others games.

St Athan return to Penarth on Wednesday evening before the Barry Cup Final on Sunday 6th May vs Llantwit Major at Jenner Park.

The second team unfortunately lost out 5-3 to promotion chasing Cadoxton Barry, Saints goals coming from Josh Howells with a brace and Sean Lucas.
