Vale of Glamorgan Senior football league round up

It was goals galore in the Vale league this weekend with 65 goals being scored in the 9 games played, averaging 7 goals a game!

Only one game in the Premier Division as the majority were competing in the SWFA Intermediate Cup. Penarth Town got a 2-1 win over recently in form Island Marine, the win puts Town second making their game next weekend with Vale United a top of the table clash.

In Division One, Barry Belgrade stayed top as they were victorious over bottom side Glenbrook 7-2. FC Pumas stay a point behind Belgrade, Pumas edged out Cadoxton Athletic 4-3. Third place Barry Athletic B were stunned losing 7-2 to reigning champion Cogan Coronation, who move up to fifth. Dockers got their second league win of the season, beating Cardiff Airport B 5-3.

Division two saw a shock result as Barry Saints suffered only their second league defeat of the season as Island Marine B ran out 6-5 winners in a thriller. The result sees Barry Saints drop to third as BVFC go second after a 3-3 draw with current penultimate team Rhoose B. These results were good news for seemingly unstoppable league leaders Cadoxton Imps as they thrashed St Athan B 6-0 to go five points clear at the top and continue their 100% record. Finally in the league Barry Albion ended a run of seven games without a win as they defeated bottom side FC Pumas 4-2.

In the afore mentioned SWFA Intermediate Cup, several Vale clubs were in action and victorious. Vale United won 4-1 over old rivals from the Bridgend League Broadlands FC. Barry Athletic unfortunately lost out to old foes, as last seasons Vale champions Cardiff Airport now of the SWFA Alliance League won 4-2. St Athan edged out Cardiff & District club Tongwynlais 1-0 to book a place in the third round, while Rhoose won against Cardiff opposition too Cathays Cons 2-1 after extra time. Cowbridge Town made the trip to Mountain Ash to play Perthcelyn and came away with a 3-1 victory. Dinas Powys Athletic unfortunately were heavily beaten 10-1 by Fairwater.

Next week is a massive weekend in the Vale league with several key games being played on Super Saturday. In the Prem it’s the top two as Vale United host Penarth Town, third play fifth as St Athan welcome Barry Athletic, fourth placed Cowbridge play sixth place Island Marine, seventh place Dinas Athletic play eighth place Rhoose and finally the bottom two face off as Tynewydd play Masons Moving Group. A key weekend in the Premier Division.

In the Division One it’s another top of the table clash as Barry Belgrade and FC Pumas collide and third place Barry Athletic B play fourth place SP Billy, fifth place Cogan play sixth place Cadoxton Athletic. In Division Two second place BVFC host third place Barry Saints.
