Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview 4/1/20

It’s the first weekend of Vale action of a brand new decade, everyone will be looking to run off the turkey and not look like one, and what a way to usher in the roaring 20’s with a blockbusting line up of games.

The Premier Division match of the day sees second place Holton Road take on third place Cadoxton Imps, with both teams locked on 17 points. Both clubs are looking to make up ground on leaders AFC Rhoose and this will be a titantic clash of epic proportions. We can’t separate these two and we are going with the draw.

League leaders AFC Rhoose aim to continue the new decade as they left the last, top of the league and they entertain Cardiff Airport in the Ceri Road derby. Bragging rights are on the line but we only see AFC Rhoose winning here.

Island Marine host Cowbridge Town, league games have been a rarity for the hosts with SWFA Cup ties taking up their time, but look for the leagues dark horses to pick up a win here to propel them back into the title picture.

Barry Athletic got back to winning ways last time out and head to the Buttrills to play Tynewydd. Tynny are on a three game unbeaten run and this one will be tough for both sides, but we think Athletic edge it.

Penarth Town are making a comeback after a slow start and are starting to show form and showing signs of things turning around. Cogan Coronation haven’t won in the last two and we think Penarth take the derby win here.

In Division One, the match of the day is a huge one, as someone’s 0 has to go, unless it’s a draw, as third place Cadoxton Barry host first place AFC Rhoose B. Rhoose have hit imperious form scoring 14 goals in two games while Caddy Barry have been hampered by weather postponements having only played one game in three months. But they’ll be raring to go in this one and we think this will be a full blooded draw between these two top sides.

A draw there means the real winners would be Barry Vikings, who will be ready and waiting to pounce on any slip ups to close the gap at the top. Vikings host Vale Utd, and despite Utd getting a win last time out, we only see Vikings triumphing here.

Cwm Talwg have become a very difficult side to beat with 1-0 becoming a reoccurring theme as of late either for or against, they play Vale Madrid who have encountered a bad run of form recently and we are going say Cwm Talwg edge this one, yes, 1-0.

Island Marine B will be wanting to bounce back from defeat last time out, while St Athan B will be looking to looking to build on their win in their previous game and find consistent form. Marine B are fourth for a reason and we will go with them for the three points.

Rhoose Social host an inform Penarth Town B, a big win in their last outing will fill Penarth B with confidence going into this one but Social are becoming a top outfit, we’ll say this ends a point a piece.

Holton Road B take on SP Billy, Holton B will be wanting to build on their win in their last game and we say they pick up the points here.

A thrilling weekend of Vale action ahead, Check back here Sunday for a full round up.
