Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 4/1/20

Holton Road took a giant step toward the Premier Division title as they defeated third place Cadoxton Imps 2-0 to maintain their unbeaten record. Goals from Ben Pearce and Linford Harris ensured that Holton Road keep the pressure on leaders AFC Rhoose, who took the bragging rights in the Ceri Road derby against Cardiff Airport as they comfortably won 4-0. Holton Road sit four points behind Rhoose but with three games in hand.

Island Marine were finally back in league action and back with a bang with a 3-1 victory over Cowbridge Town. Marine have games in a hand on everyone and this is a win that could set Marine on a run that sees them romping up the outside to be big players in this title race.
Tynewydd extended their unbeaten run to four games as Craig Rattenbury’s strike gave The Inn an impressive 1-0 triumph over reigning champions Barry Athletic, the win moves Tynny up a place to 9th.

Penarth Town continue to find good form and they carried it into the derby against Cogan Coronation winning emphatically 5-1, Rhys Fford starring for Town as they are making Cwrt Y Vil a fortress again.

In Division One, Cadoxton Barry’s unbeaten run game to a screeching halt as leaders AFC Rhoose B thumped them 6-2. Rhoose B sent out a frightening message to the rest of the division as they are now odds on favourites for the title. Caddy Barry, however, do have three games in hand on their rivals and but sit 12 points behind them now, so the race isn’t over but can anyone really stop Rhoose B.

That result allowed Barry Vikings to make second place their own this week as they pulled off a thrilling 3-2 win over Vale United. The goals coming from Mathew James, Cory James and a last minute winner from Harry Lambert. BV are now the main contenders to Rhoose B, they are seven points off the leaders with two games in hand.

Cwm Talwg continue to show how difficult they are to break down and this week added goals to their equation as they picked up their third win of the campaign with an impressive 2-1 win over Vale Madrid to leapfrog them in the table.
St Athan B made it two wins in a row with an excellent 4-1 victory over Island Marine B, a first senior hat trick from 17 year old James Clancy helping Saints B to a fine win that moves them up to 7th.Penarth Town B produced the days most stunning result as they thrashed Rhoose Social 7-0 at the Butts. Penarth B are in top form and the win sends them 5th.

Finally, SP Billy picked up their first league win of the season, they picked a very impressive 5-2 victory over Holton Road B. An excellent display by SP and fully deserve their first win.
