Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 9/10
Only one game in the Premier Division with the majority tied up with the SWFA Cup, league leaders Penarth Town thumped Barry Athletic 5-0 with Rhys Knight getting a hattrick. The result extends Penarth’s lead to 6 points at the top, albeit having played a game more than the chasing pack.
In Division One, we have brand new league leaders as Sully Sports thrashed St Athan B 5-0 to take top inspired by Ashley Cottle’s hat trick.
Sully were able to leap frog Rhoose Social to top the table as The Social’s unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt in Corntown as Vale United continued their impressive run to win 5-3. Goals from Jac Wisenden, Phil Caseley, Jason Tominey, Luke Dingle and Owyn Poole see Vale United move up to third, United looking serious title contenders.
Vale Athletic remain unbeaten as they saw off St Athan C 5-2, Dan Chaulk bagging a brace on the way to three points for Athletic as they stay fourth, but just two points off top with a game in hand.
Mitch Thomas hit a hattrick as Holton Road B hammered BV Reserves to climb up to fifth in impressive fashion.
Vale Madrid picked up their first win since August with a 2-1 victory over Island Marine B, Tom Webb and Geraint Andrews with the goals that hand Madrid a vital three points.
The title race for the first division is wide open with three points separating the top six!!
In the SWFA Cup second round, Penygraig BGC of the Rhondda League saw off AFC Rhoose 3-0, Alliance Premier Division side Trebanog eased past BV 6-1 while Cwrt Rawlin, who sit top of the Taff Ely Rhymney Valley league, thumped Island Marine 5-1. Cadoxton Barry were edged out 4-3 in a thriller by Graig of the Taff Ely Rhymney Valley and Cowbridge were dumped out of the cup by Cardiff & District side The Star 11-2. St Athan’s game away against Treorchy was cancelled after Treorchy withdrew from the competition. But Holton Road saw success for the Vale league coming from a goal down to win 2-1 over Rhondda league side The Baglan, to leave two Vale sides still in the competition.
