Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 28/1

  • After all the rain, Christmas, New Year and frozen pitches, the Vale league is finally back and picked up where it left off with some tremendous action.
  • We start with the Divisional Cup competitions, with the Supporters Cup and at Maslin Park where after 120 minutes of football Island Marine and Penarth Town couldn’t be separated at 2-2, and it was down to penalties to decide this tie, with Island Marine coming out winners 4-3.
  • In the other first round tie, it took another 120 minutes to separate St Athan and Sully Sports, with Sully twice coming back from behind to win it in extra time with a blockbuster of a strike from Dean McCarthy.
  • In the Dockers Cup, Championship leaders BV will be focusing on a league and cup double as they blew away second place Cardiff Airport Vets 5-1 to advance to the quarter finals, goals from Mat James, Elliot Jackson and Tyler Jenkinson saw BV assert their dominance.
  • Holton Road Reserves started quickly against St Athan Reserves racing into a 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes, and even though St Athan Reserves pulled one back Holton Road Reserves held on to go through.
  • Nathan Donnelly hit a hat trick as Tynewydd made it into the last eight with a 6-2 win away at Ceri Road against Rhoose Social, despite going a goal down early Tynewydd rallied to cruise to victory.
  • Vale Athletic continued their pre Christmas form as they hammered Island Marine Reserves 8-2, Harry McNeill the stand out performer with a hat trick and an assist.
  • In the league we saw Premier Division action with league leaders Holton Road getting back in the grove with a 3-1 win over Cwm Talwg, the win sees Holton Road make it 11 wins from 11 and 9 points clear of second place Island Marine but having played two games more.
  • AFC Rhoose moved up to third place with a 5-2 victory over Cogan Coronation, Josh Bryan starring with a brace and an assist.
  • Cardiff Airport produced a stunning comeback to recover from 3-0 down at half time to Barry Athletic, to grab a late equaliser to draw 3-3, 17 year old Freddie O’Carroll coming off the bench to hit the levelled in the 87th minute.
