St Athan 1-5 Penarth Town

St Athan’s disappointing season continued as they were mauled 5-1 at home by Penarth Town.

Town came off a huge 8-0 win over Cowbridge last week and were full of confidence striking the post early on.

Penarth were the quicker, hungrier side and soon raced into a 3-0 lead leaving Saints shell shocked.

The home side rallied ten minutes before the break and ten minutes after with Kieran Ashton fired narrowly wide and then Reece Lewis’s stinging free kick deflected in to pull one back for St Athan.

Penarth then saw a penalty off target but soon extended their lead with two more quick fire goals as the game descended into a fiery affair.

After a much better performance last week to give glimpses of hope for Saints, this week was such a disappointing result and performance albeit against an impressive Penarth side.
