St Athan FC Presentation Evening

After a successful season Friday 30th June saw the annual presentation evening for St Athan FC this year held at the Fontygary Leisure complex.

St Athan first team finished runners up in the premier division and Barry Cup winners. The second team had a strong finish to their season losing only two of their final ten league fixtures.

Top goalscorers saw Jordan Mortimore top the first team charts with 20 goals and Paul Lucas top scored for the second team with 8 in 10 games.

The awards night started with Gavin Morgans being named Second team Managers Player of the year by seconds manager Paul Wolfe, the veteran Morgans has been a constant in the second team week in week out, playing in whatever position he was called to and performing in them.

Following that First team manager Bill Laing crowned Karl Steel as first team Managers Player of the year. Steel capped off an excellent season bagging a hat trick in the final game, bringing his tally to 15 goals this term. Steel has grown into his new striker role as the campaign went on and excelled.

This brought us to the the Paul Lewis Second team Players Player of the year voted for by second team players. The votes were counted and verified with five players getting a vote but Gavin Morgans won out with 38% of the vote to claim a personal trophy double for the night.

Finally, the Paul Lewis First team Players Player of the year was named as voted by first team players. Five players were nominated and Bradley Young won with 47% of the vote. A real breakout season for Bradley who excelled in defence throughout the season with his technique, tenacity and heart. Bradley topped the season off being named man of the match in the cup final win.

An entertaining night to cap off a good season for the club, now the club look to push on, improve and build on what has been achieved. Preseason training starts 12th July at St Athan Paul Lewis community centre field at 6pm, all welcome old and new.
