Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 16/2/19

Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 16/2/19
Love is in the air but we don’t care at the VoGAFL offices because football and it’s a jam packed weekend of VoGAFL action, plus it’s not raining!!

We kick off in the Premier Division as leaders Barry Athletic travel to the Bear Field to take on Cowbridge Town, Athletic are on a three game winning run and sit seven points ahead of second place Rhoose having played a game more. Cowbridge are two without a win including a loss to Athletic a month ago. Athletic also comprehensively won their previous encounter so lean toward an away win here.

Down the wrong end of the table, Sully Sports host the one side below them, St Athan. Sully showing signs of recovery after a difficult season but are two without loss in the league. St Athan are enduring a torrid time and are now seven league games without a win, that last win game against Sully but since then Sully returned the favour winning the second game, this one may stay all square.

In Division One, Champions Holton Road host Cadoxton Imps in what could be game of the weekend. Holton Road have won every league game so far this season but meet Imps in decent form with winger turned striker Jamie Livingston on fire with 8 goals in 2 games. However, despite Imps form, we can’t look past Holton Road for another league win, although it will be a tight one.

Cardiff Airport welcome SP Billy with the hope of getting back to winning ways over the divisions bottom side. Airport are without a league win in six but SP Billy did win the previous encounter 3-1 so this one is not cut and dry. A point a piece may be the outcome.

Tynewydd have risen to second lately and travel to Severn Avenue to play Cwm Talwg. Talwg’s form has picked up as of late and will provide a tough test, Tynny will want to lift themselves after a cup loss last week, at the offices we’re saying a narrow away win.

In Division Two, league leaders AFC Rhoose B host Cadoxton Athletic, Rhoose trounced Athletic last week in the cup and surely will fancy their chances of finding breathing space at the top with this their game in hand on Barry Vikings. Seven league losses on the bounce for Athletic and we think this unfortunately may continue for this week.

St Athan B play Island Marine B in another repeat of the cup action from last week. St Athan B’s league form has nose dived lately but they are still very much in the title mix. Island Marine B’s league position is deceiving as shown by last weeks cup win and look for them to spring another surprise here.

There is also cup action this week as games postponed last week look to get played.

Cogan Coronation host Cadoxton Barry in the Supporters Cup in what should be an excellent tie. Both sides are in the Barry Cup semi finals already this season and will be eyeing a spot in the supporters cup semis too. Look for the home side to book a last four spot, although extra time may be required.

In the Dockers Cup, Penarth Town B welcome the leagues in form side Barry Vikings to Cwrt Y Vil. Both sides will be eyeing the cup and this one will be a very tight encounter that could go all the way to penalties.

Barry Athletic B will play Vale Madrid, the latter’s league position could be misleading as they have scored seven goals in their last two games to show signs of recovery. Athletic B’s up and down form could come into it but if they hit a rich vein of form then they can’t be ruled out.

Finally, and not least, AFC Rhoose are last VoGAFL representation in the SWFA Senior Cup as they travel to play Tata Steel United who are top of the Port Tabot & District league. Good luck to Rhoose in what should be an entertaining game.

Check back here on the weekend for a full round up.
