Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 2/3/19

Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 2/3/19

The attention turns once again, predominantly, to the divisional cups this week with a smattering of league games too.
Cowbridge Town play Island Marine in the ASRS Cup semi final, both sides come in decent form and will really fancy lifting the esteemed trophy if they can get past the other. After being victorious last weekend against Rhoose look for Marine to make Jenner.
The last quarter final is also set to be played as St Athan host AFC Rhoose, Rhoose will want to hit back after their loss last weekend and will fancy their chances of booking a place against Penarth Town next week in the semis.
In the Supporters Cup, it’s an intriguing battle between Division One Champions Holton Road and the first team to defeat them in the league this season, Cadoxton Imps. Imps are in excellent form and blowing away early season expectations. Holton will be looking for payback from a few weeks ago as they chase a treble, and extra time may be needed to separate these sides.
In the other semi final, Cadoxton Barry play Cwm Talwg. Caddy Barry are the cup team of the season so far as they leave their topsy turvy league form behind and play in their first of two semi finals. We wouldn’t bet against Cwm Talwg pulling this one off but think it’ll be Caddy Barry that make the final, just.
In the Dockers Cup, Penarth Town B play AFC Rhoose B in what should be a corker. Rhoose B must be cup favourites as league leaders but Penarth B are in great form and we tip them to reach the final.
Vale Madrid take on Island Marine B in the other semi final. Both sides are down the wrong end of division two and will welcome the distraction of the cup. This is too close to call and penalties may be required.
Only two games in the league this week, in Division One Cogan Coronation face Cardiff Airport, both sides have done well as of late and we think a score draw here.
In Division Two, third place St Athan B head to Pencoedtre to play Cadoxton Athletic. St Athan B without a win in three games while Athletic picked up their first win in ten league games last week. A tough task ahead but we reckon a draw.
An entertaining weekend ahead, check back here Sunday for the full round up.
