Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 6/4/19

Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview – 6/4/19

This Sunday the Supporters Cup takes centre stage as Jenner Park hosts the final between Holton Road and Cadoxton Barry. Holton Road will be looking to complete the second part of their treble chase to add to their Division One title. Cadoxton Barry’s run to the final has been gallant, but they go in as huge underdogs, can they upset the odds.
In the Premier Division, with the title settled last week Champions Barry Athletic get a week off as the attention turns to the race for second place. AFC Rhoose are current favourites to maintain second as they host Sully Sports, but they know Island Marine and Cowbridge Town will be ready to pounce on any slip up. However, those two sides play each other this weekend with Rhoose hoping for a draw. Meanwhile Penarth Town will be looking to finish the season strong ahead of their Barry Cup final at the end of the month, they host St Athan.
In Division One, the chase for promotion turned in Cadoxton Imps favour last week as they came out on top against Tynewydd. Can Imps follow it up this week against Cardiff Airport. Airport still have aspirations of a fourth place finish and last weeks narrow loss to Holton Road was their first in five games. Imps know promotion is in their hands and with a superior goal difference a win on Saturday would almost all but guarantee it.
In Division Two, the title race continues. In mid week Barry Vikings defeated Barry Athletic B 2-1 to move within two points of leaders AFC Rhoose B and three points ahead of third place St Athan B, having played a game less than both. Saturday Barry Vikings travel to St Athan in a crunch title match, a loss could be very damaging to both sides title aspirations especially if AFC Rhoose B secure three points against Barry Athletic B. Cadoxton Athletic saw off Dockers Cup winners Penarth Town B in mid week 2-1 to dent their late charge a place in the top three, but there is quick chance for payback as Penarth B host Cadoxton Athletic this weekend. Finally, Vale Madrid host Island Marine B hoping to bounce back from cup final disappointment and close the gap on Marine B to two points.
