Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview 8/2/20

A busy weekend in the Vale league lies ahead with league and cup games. In the premier division AFC Rhoose have the chance to return to the summit as they host Penarth Town in an intriguing encounter. Rhoose edged Penarth in the reverse fixture and we’ll go with Rhoose just edging them again.

Defending champions Barry Athletic host Holton Road at the Athletic Ground looking to halt a run of two straight defeats, Holton Road play their first game since their first league defeat of the season and we see them getting back to winning ways here.

Cadoxton Imps host Cowbridge Town at the butts, Cowbridge drew their last league game and pushed Rhoose all the way last weekend in the cup, but we think Imps will have too much and go with the home win.

Cardiff Airport host St Athan at Ceri Road, have only won one in eight while St Athan are on a run of four games beaten in league and cup. We think this one will be tight but we’ll say St Athan just take the points.

In Division One, two in form sides clash as Cwm Talwg take on Barry Athletic B. Talwg have only lost once in five games since the turn of the year while Athletic B have won both their games in 2020, this will be a good contest and we think Talwg take the win.

Holton Road B returned to winning ways last time out in the league and they Vale Madrid, who have lost their last six league games, we think it’ll be close game but Holton B coming out with the three points.

In Barry Cup action, the two remaining ties to finalise the quarter final line up will be played. Vale United host Cadoxton Barry at Corntown, controversy surrounded last weeks encounter in the Supporters Cup and this week a victor should come out of the game. We think Cadoxton Barry will go through to play the winner of Rhoose Social vs Island Marine. Social knocked premier division opposition out of the cup in the previous round, as they dumped Barry Athletic out. But Island Marine are in red hot form and we think they’ll head through here.

The Dockers Cup this season has a new format of being for ‘B’ teams only, with the six ‘B’ teams being drawn into two groups of three playing each other once and the group winners meeting at the Jenner final. All group games will take place at The Buttrills.

AFC Rhoose B come into the cup as huge favourites and they take on Penarth Town B, Rhoose B are in fantastic form and we can only see one winner here.

And finally, Island Marine B play St Athan B, Marine B are five without a win in all competitions while St Athan B are without a win since they were victorious over Marine B in the new year, so we think this one ends all square.

Check back here Saturday night/Sunday morning for a full round up.
