Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview 9/11

Vale of Glamorgan Football League Preview 9/11

As we write this preview we hope it isn’t all for naught again, as we look to the upcoming forecast in the hope we get some football in the Vale this weekend. And what a weekend to come back to, the second round of the Barry Cup takes the spotlight. It was in 1921 when Cadoxton Old Boys defeated Barry YMCA 3-0 to lift the very first Barry Cup, nearly 99 years on come May, just which club will add their name to the illustrious list of winners.

Cogan Coronation host AFC Rhoose in an intriguing encounter, Cogan got the win over Rhoose in the league but will face a Rhoose side smarting after narrowly going out of the SWFA Cup last week, and will be looking for a response, we think it’ll be Rhoose making the quarters.

Vale United take on Cadoxton Barry in Corntown in an all Division One tie, Caddy Barry are flying at the moment while United are on a poor run and we think it’ll be the away side advancing.

Premier Division leaders Cadoxton Imps head to Ceri Road to take on Cardiff Airport. Airport have lost their last four while Imps have won their last three in the league, surely only one winner here and we think Imps head into the last eight.

Holton Road face St Athan in another all Premier Division game. Holton Road are unbeaten in the league this season and already have a win over St Athan this campaign, we think Holton Road edge this one to march on.

SP Billy head to Burnham Avenue to play Vale Madrid. SP are bottom of Division One while Vale Madrid have only lost recently to the top two, is there an upset on the cards, we don’t think so and have Madrid heading through.Cwm Talwg welcome Premier Division Penarth Town, could this be the game for a giant killing. Both sides are third from bottom of their respective divisions, but we think Penarth have enough quality to progress.

Tynewydd have a bye through to the last eight while giant killing Rhoose Social’s tie with Island Marine is delayed due to SWFA Cup commitments.

In Division One, Barry Athletic B host Island Marine B in the Island Derby, we think the form book gets flipped here an Athletic B take the win.

Penarth Town B welcome high flying Barry Vikings. Vikings are in fine form and seem quite unstoppable as of late, look for their run to continue.

Holton Road B face St Athan B, Holton Road B have lost the last two and will be hungry for three points, while St Athan B rebounded last time out with a win. This one ended all square on the opening day so we think it’ll be a point apiece again.

In the SWFA Senior Cup, Cowbridge Town welcome Bridgend & District side Bryncae who have lost all five league games this campaign, we say Town get their much needed win here.

Also in the SWFA Senior Cup Island Marine host Church Village who make their second trip to the Island after knocking out Barry Athletic in the previous round. Marine have been good so far we think they advance.

Also Rhoose Social are in action in the SWFA Intermediate Cup, they host Bridgend & District first Division side Penyfai who have won one in eight this season, we back Social to advance.

Once again we hope the games get played this weekend. Check back here for a full round up on Sunday…..hopefully!!
