Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 12/8

  • The brand new Vale of Glamorgan football league season gets underway this past Saturday and it’s promising to be the most competitive for years and the first game day certainly didn’t disappoint. 
  • AFC Rhoose gave newly promoted Vale Athletic a hostile welcome to the Premier Division, thrashing them 6-0. Josh Bryan grabbed a double while James Corrigan, Elliot Ball, Andrew Townsend and James Wharfe all got on the scoresheet.
  • Cardiff Airport came back from 0-2 down against Penarth Town to win 6-2, Iestyn Raven inspiring Airport with a hat trick in an impressive opening day win.
  • A dramatic contest in Corntown, as St Athan came back against Vale United from 4-2 down to draw 4-4. Mitchell Stimson-Jagger bagged all four United goals while Ben Boyd, Ian Phillips and Leow Morris got on the scoresheet for St Athan before Mike Milani scored a 94th minute equaliser.
  • In the Championship, newly reformed Cadoxton Imps hammered Cwm Talwg 7-0, the Imps were three up at half time thanks to Kieran Ashton, Chris Rees and Ashley Cottle, and then ran away with the game after the break with Rees adding his second, Dean McCarthy scoring twice and Feran Kanda also notching.
  • Cogan Coronation got life in the Championship off to flyer by also hitting 7 as they cruised past new club Porthkerry Panthers. Kellan Allison scored twice before the break along with Joe Pinch. In the second half goals from Ben Cooper, Nathan Riddell, and veteran Dan Humphries sealed the rout.
  • Cardiff Airport Vets got off to a winning start seeing off Rhoose Social 3-1 at Ceri Road, Sam Ross with a brace and Lewis Wride sealing the win.
  • Barry Athletic Reserves and Tynewydd played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. Calvin Fahiya scored twice for Athletic before Nathan Donnelly pulled one back but Lewis Avaient restored Athletic’s two goal cushion. However, Gareth Griffiths scored to reduce the deficit before Tom Parsons levelled for Tynewydd.
  • Vale Madrid came out 3-1 victors as they travelled to Peterston Super Ely, David Evans equalised and then Sam Robinson scored twice to take all three points for Vale Madrid.
  • And finally, St Athan Reserves won a 9 goal thriller 5-4 against AFC Rhoose Development. St Athan went 2-0 up through Andy Home and Ieaun Morgan before Rhoose hit back through two Joe Dalton goals, Ryan Jacka and Kristian Powell to lead 2-4. However, St Athan Reserves rallied and Cameron West came on to score twice on his debut before Alex Bowes scored a 92nd minute winner for St Athan Reserves.
