Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up

Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up

It was the second cup final of the season as Division One’s Supporters Cup took centre stage on a fine Sunday afternoon. It was Barry Athletic B who claimed the cup 3-1 against SP Billy at Jenner Park with captain Spencer Price from the spot, Dan Morgan and Ben Graham bagging the goals that saw Athletic B lift the cup with a late consolation goal from Sp Billy in last few minutes. Athletic B will be looking to seal a league and cup double now if they can win their last remaining league fixture.

A day earlier in league action, after clinching the league title last weekend, Vale United’s bid for a perfect season was ended as Rhoose inflicted their first league defeat of the season. League runners up Rhoose secured a 2-0 win over the champions.

Elsewhere, St Athan notched a 3-1 win over Tynewydd bouncing back from a 5-4 midweek defeat to Penarth Town, while bottom side Masons Moving Group shocked Penarth with 2-1 victory, Masons signing off with a deserved win after a long hard season.

In Division One Barry Belgrade ensured the title race goes to the final game as they were victorious over Pumas 4-1 to move two points behind leaders Barry Athletic B. Cardiff Airport B thumped Cogan 3-0 while Dockers triumphed by the same scoreline against Cadoxton Barry.

The Division Two title race took more twists and turns as leaders Cadoxton Imps and second place Barry Saints played out a 1-1 draw, but third place Penarth B were unable to take advantage as they lost 1-0 at home to Rhoose B. Rhoose B have now completed their fixtures with a fantastic turnaround after languishing at the foot of the table early season, they have only lost one in their last 9 winning 7 to secure a comfortable mid table finish. Barry Albion got their first win in five with a 4-1 victory over St Athan B.

Next week it’s the ASRS Cup final with Vale United chasing a second part of a treble as they play Cowbridge Town at Jenner Park on Sunday. The Division One title could well be decided if Barry Belgrade fail to win against Dockers. In Division Two it’s heating up with several mid week fixtures and then a title deciding weekend with Cadoxton Imps hoping to hold off the challenge of Barry Saints and Penarth B.
