Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 18/1/20

On a day we only saw a handful of games played, could we have witnessed a huge turning point in the campaign at the top of the premier division. Island Marine brought Holton Road’s unbeaten streak to a screeching halt with a thumping 5-0 victory at Maslin Park. Goals from Joe Mellars(2), Adam Owens, Rhyd Hopkins (pen) and Dan Bell saw Marine move up to third place and now sit two points behind second place Holton with a game in hand, and three points behind first place AFC Rhoose but have two games in hand on the leaders. Holton Road, who were down to ten men after having a man sent off early in the game, still sit one point behind Rhoose but the leaders have played a game more. This title race is becoming the most thrilling in years with four teams all in contention of the title and there’s plenty of twists and turns to come in the most competitive premier division for a few years.

The only other game played on the Prem saw Penarth Town triumph over Tynewydd 4-0 at the butts. Goals from David Shallis (2), Isaac Follon and Callum Eva see Penarth move up a place to seventh with the win.

In Division One, Barry Athletic B stunned Cadoxton Barry coming away with a 3-2 win. That’s three games without a win for Caddy Barry who’s title aspirations seem to be disappearing. Mitchell Thomas, Lewis Avaien and Tyrone Phillips notching for Athletic B that sees them go fifth.

Cwm Talwg played out a 2-2 draw with SP Billy that sees both sides remain unbeaten in 2020. Perkins and Galsworthy netting for Talwg with Ingham and Tyler responding for SP.

So just the four games in the league this week as the weather mostly wins out, but this week it’s forecast dry, so look out for a preview of next weeks full league program on Wednesday. Probably.
