Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 20/8 

The new Vale of Glamorgan Football League season is up and running with plenty of action and plenty of goals. The vale league is made up of two divisions, the premier division and the newly named Championship, with 12 teams in each with games played all over the Vale every Saturday afternoon.

In the Premier Division the reigning champions Penarth Town got their title defence off to a flyer with a 6-2 win over newly promoted Sully Sports. Goals from Winton, Richardson, White, Beedell and Eva handing Penarth the comfortable three points.

AFC Rhoose come into the season strong and started even stronger with a 6-1 triumph over Cogan Coronation. Webb, Bryan and Raven notching before Ross and Beven added off the bench to give Rhoose a perfect start to the campaign.

Last seasons runners up Holton Road came from behind to beat Barry Athletic 2-1 in a hard fought contest with Adamson hitting a stunner to win it in the 80th minutes.

In a battle of newly promoted sides Cwm Talwg saw off Vale Utd 3-1, Kirke put Talwg in front before Thomas levelled for Utd but Jones’ double saw Talwg pick up the win.

Island Marine edged out Cardiff Airport 3-2 in a thriller, Davies and Blackmore putting Marine into a first half lead before Stradling pulled one back for Airport but Hopkins restored Marine’s two goal cushion, Jones then reduced the deficit to set up a nervy finish but Marine held on for the win.

St Athan started their campaign with three points as goals from Morgan and Boyd saw them defeat Cadoxton Barry 2-0.

In the Championship, preseason favourites BV thumped Tynewydd 4-0, Jeckinson, James and Miller with the goals as BV made a big statement.

Vale Athletic demolished St Athan Thirds as Edwards, Lewis, Warden, Somers and Chapman put them in seventh heaven with a 7-1 win.

Colston, Thomas, Humphreys and Knight struck for Holton Road Reserves as they saw off Barry Athletic Reserves 5-2.

Cardiff Airport Veterans got off to a good start with an impressive 3-0 triumph over Rhoose Social, Finlay, Gunn and Jacques with the goals.

Vale Madrid edged out St Athan Reserves 3-2 at the Butts despite racing into a 3-0 lead, Robinson, Evans and Webb notching before George pulled two back for St Athan Reserves.

And finally, league new boys Peterson Super Ely got off to a perfect start as they defeated Island Marine 4-1.
