Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up
The Vale football league returned this past weekend and hit the ground running.
Reigning champions Barry Athletic opened their title defence with a 2-0 over last season’s runners up and Barry Cup winners St Athan. Colburn and Oaten netting for Athletic as they set down an opening day marker. Cowbridge Town survived a late Penarth Town fight back to win a nine goal thriller 5-4 after being 5-1 up. Island Marine, opened their their 25th anniversary season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Premier Division new boys Barry Saints. Sully Sports, finally promoted to the Premier Division after a SWFA rule change, were edged out by Rhoose 1-0.
In Division One, Cardiff Airport got off to a flyer as they thumped Cwm Talwg 4-0. Cogan Coronation came away with a 3-1 victory away to SP Billy while Tynewydd and Cadoxton Barry played out a thrilling 4-4 draw.
In Division Two, Cadoxton Imps look like the early favourites as they routed Barry Athletic 6-0. Vale Madrid also made a dream start to the season as they demolished an under strength Barry Albion 9-0. St Athan B edged out Island Marine B 2-1 in a combative affair, while Rhoose B defeated Barry Vikings with a comprehensive 3-0 win. Finally Cadoxton Athletic came away from Cwrt Y Vil with a 3-1 win over Penarth Town B.
