Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 26/1/19

It was cold and wet afternoon in the Vale of Glamorgan but it rained goals in the Vale league.

Barry Athletic tightened their grip at the top of the Premier Division as they edged out Penarth Town 5-4 in a thrilling game of football. Teejay Caton got a hat trick, Harry Carter and Andrew Colburn both got one each for the leaders. Caton completing his hat-trick with a 92nd minute!! Athletic now move seven points ahead of Rhoose having played a game more. Sully Sports better run of recent form continued as a double from Kier McInery helped them secure an impressive 3-2 victory at Maslin Park against Island Marine, McInery’s first coming from all of 30 yards out with a stunning strike. The result sees Marine stay fourth having missed the chance to leap frog Penarth, although Marine do have two games in hand.

In Division Two the title race is wide open, Barry Vikings made it four straight league wins as they dispatched leaders AFC Rhoose B 4-2 to move level on points at the top, Jordan Allen, Thomas Jones, Cory James getting the goals for the Vikings. St Athan B are right back in it as they go one point behind after a 5-0 victory over Cadoxton Athletic, Craig Howells getting two in the win. Penarth Town B moved away from Barry Athletic B with a very good 5-2 away triumph.

A brief but entertaining few games in the Vale league, next week a full league program returns.
