Vale of Glamorgan Football league round up

Vale of Glamorgan Football league round up

Only a handful of games this week in the Vale league but we start with SWFA Cup action, Premier Division leaders and reigning league champions Barry Athletic bowed out of the SWFA Cup after a 3-2 defeat to Penrhiwfer. In a thrilling cup tie Athletic held their own against a side two divisions above them from the SWFA Alliance league Division One, but it was not to be and Athletic now switch their sole focus on defending their league title.

Only one Vale league club remain in the competition and that is Rhoose who were in Premier Division action this past weekend, securing a narrow 1-0 victory over second place Penarth Town. The win moves Rhoose back up to third, one point behind Penarth with three games in hand and now four points behind top spot with a game in hand on the leaders.

In Division One, it’s seems that nothing can stop Holton Road who made it a not so unlucky 13 as they notched their 13th straight league win as they edged out second place Cadoxton Imps 2-1. Tynewydd secured a tight 1-0 victory over Cogan, that’s three league games without a win for Coronation despite their Barry cup heroics.

In Division Two, Rhoose B went top as they hammered Cadoxton Athletic 7-0, Rhoose B now go on to play the side they usurped as leaders St Athan B. Barry Athletic B saw off Island Marine B 3-0.

Next week a full program of games, check back here for a full round up.
