Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 5/11 

  • With the current top four teams in the league not in action this weekend, it gave the chasing pack a chance to produce fireworks and attempt to close the gap. 
  • Barry Athletic saw their four game unbeaten run come to a halt with a 3-0 home defeat to Sully Sports. Despite an early red card and playing the majority of the game with ten men, goals from Best Lee, Elvis Kononovs and Cole Saunders hand Sully their first league win since September.
  • Cardiff Airport made it two league wins on the bounce as they edged Vale United 3-2. Cai James put United ahead, lead they held until twenty minutes from time when Josh Hobbs came off the bench to draw Airport level ane then with 8 minutes remaining put the home side in front. Lee Stradling then hit the Airport’s third in the 90th minute before Mitchell Stimson Jagger pulled back a very late consolation for Utd.
  • Cwm Talwg came out on the right end of a ten goal thriller as they came from behind to beat Cogan Coronation 6-4. Talwg were 2-3 down at half time but rallied and goals from Cole Roberts, Dafydd Jones and Jordan Yeoman saw Talwg get the important three points.
  • In the Championship, Cardiff Airport Vets looked to keep in touch with leaders BV and produced a fine 3-0 win over Barry Athletic Reserves, the Vets now sit six points off the leaders.
  • Holton Road Reserves sit third and level on points with Cardiff Airport Vets, but have played two more games, as they turned on the style to beat Island Marine Reserves 5-1 away at Maslin Park, Mitchell Thomas with a double.
  • Rhoose Social remain fourth and made it six unbeaten in the league with a 3-0 away win over St Athan Reserves, Ryan John, Chris Morgan and Bradley Davies with the goals.
  • Vale Athletic had quite the afternoon, finding themselves 3-2 down after 50 minutes away to Peterston Super Ely they proceeded to score 9 goals in 35 seconds half minutes to come out 11-3 winners, the stand outs being Ryan Warden scoring 4 and Richard Morgan notching 5!! The win moves Athletic up into fifth place after scoring 18 goals in their last two games.
  • Tynewydd went sixth in the league with a 6-3 victory away at Vale Madrid, Gareth Griffiths scoring twice to take his tally to 8 goals in 5 games. 
 
  • It was also SWFA Cup day, but the weather claimed many ties that will be played Saturday, including the games for Holton Road and AFC Rhoose. However, BV did play and tasted defeat for the first time this season as they lost 3-0 to a very good Afan United side who currently sit top of the Port Talbot League.
