Vale of Glamorgan football league round up

It was another exciting weekend in the Vale football league saw some high scoring games, big results and a cup upset.

We start with that cup upset as St Athan shocked SWFA Alliance League side Cardiff Airport in the SWFA Intermediate Cup last 16. The two sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw that went all the way to penalties.  Jordan Mortimore (2) and Josh Morgan getting Saints’ goals. In the shoot out Gareth Richards saved a penalty and Jonathan Ashton converted the decisive spot kick to send St Athan into the quarter finals and eliminate last season’s Intermediate Cup runners up and Vale League champions.

In the ASRS Cup Vale United cruised through into the semi finals 5-1 against Barry Athletic, this sets up the semi final against St Athan.

In league action Masons Moving Group finally got their first win of the season at the twelfth time of asking. Josh Bell, Lee Galsworthy, Luke Brody-Miles, Paul Eveleigh and Jordan Yoeman notched for the home side in a 5-2 win against Dinas Powys Athletic. A win that it is a credit to Masons who have endured a difficult season. Dinas however are in free fall with that their fifth league defeat in a row.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Tynewydd held Penarth Town with an impressive 2-2 draw. Rhoose went second as they put Cowbridge Town to the sword comprehensively 3-0 making it eight league games unbeaten. Rhoose go three points behind Vale United, although the leaders do have four games in hand.

In Division One Barry Athletic B kept up their table topping form with their fifth league win on the bounce with a 4-1 win away to Dockers. Spencer Price, Linford harris, Ben Graham and Dan Morgan with the goals. man of the match keeper Chris Simpson topped it off with a penalty save at 2-1.

Barry Belgrade lost ground on the leaders as they were held 3-3 by fifth place SP Billy. Sully continued their recent form as they disposed of Cogan 4-1 while Pumas stayed third after a goal crazy game winning 8-3 against Glenbrook. Cardiff Airport B edged out Cadoxton Athletic in a 5-4 thriller.

In Division Two Cadoxton Imps reclaimed top spot after a 6-1 victory over Pumas B while Barry Saints slipped up being held 3-3 by Rhoose B, who made it three games unbeaten. Third place Penarth B closed the gap on second to six points with a game in hand after a 3-1 over Barry Albion, Albion’s first league defeat of 2017.

It’s a full league fixture list next weekend. Games of the day in each division look like being Rhoose vs Penarth, Sully vs SP Billy and Cadoxton Imps vs Rhoose B.
