Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 8/4 

  • Holton Road are champions!! The undefeated league leaders clinched the VoGAFL Premier Division title in quite some style with an emphatic 11-2 hammering of bottom side Cogan Coronation. Ben Pearce the star of the show with four goals and setting up another three. Ricky Sansome got a double, with Jack Cutajar, Rhys James, Mark Kingdon, Dan Morgan and Tyrell Williams all scoring. Holton Road claim the title having won 16 out of their 17 league games, and are still unbeaten with three games remaining, plus they are in two cup finals as they chase a treble and then promotion in the SWFA play offs in this historic season for the club.
  • Third place AFC Rhoose came back from 2-0 down to beat second place Island Marine 3-2 at Maslin Park. Gabriel Oram and Jack Stokes put Marine two up but Jamie Bagnall pulled one back right on half time. Joe Butcher then levelled the game in the second half before Josh Bryan got what turned out to be the winner.
  • Fourth place Penarth Town slipped up going down to a 4-1 home defeat to inform St Athan. An own goal gave St Athan the lead at half time before Mike Milani and a double Ben Boyd gave St Athan their fourth straight win.
  • Barry Athletic came back from two down to rescue a point away to Cardiff Airport in a 2-2 draw. Airport were quickly into the lead with goals from youth prospects 16 year old Andrei Espiritu and 17 year old Freddie O’Carroll. But it was Athletic’s own youth prospect 16 year old Alfie Tipples that pulled one back before Callum Hobbs scored the equaliser against his former side.
  • Vale United secured their first win in five games with a 2-1 victory over Cwm Talwg. Josh Kirke put Talwg ahead but Cai James soon levelled for United just before half time. Vale United, though, secured all three points in the most dramatic of circumstances as Cai James converted a 93 minute penalty!!
  • In the Championship, the title is tantalisingly in reach for BV as they saw off Vale Madrid 6-2, Tyler Jenkinson scoring a hat trick to take his total to 19 league goals for the season. BV now play the Dockers Cup final on Sunday vs Tynewydd.
  • Holton Road Reserves still sit second as they hammered St Athan Thirds 11-2, Mitch Thomas grabbing four goals while Cam Leach also notched a hat trick, that makes it four wins in a row for Holton Road Reserves.
  • Vale Athletic bounced back from a midweek thumping to hand one out themselves as they beat Barry Athletic Reserves 7-1. Matt Chapman scoring five goals and setting up the other two in a total man of the match display.
  • Tynewydd played out a 2-2 draw with Cardiff Airport Vets, Lewis Gunn put Airport in front before goals from Joe Matthews and Nathan Donnelly put Tynewydd in front but Sam Ross levelled for Airport to ensure a share of the spoils.
  • Rhoose Social were on the right end of a nine goal thriller as they edged out Island Marine Reserves 5-4. Chris Morgan bagging a hat trick for Social as they pick up their first win in seven and move up to seventh.
  • Peterston Super Ely saw off St Athan Reserves 5-3, Jon Wooten and Henry Adams both hitting braces in the victory.
  • More midweek action this week so keep an eye out for a mid week round up before more league action next Saturday, and next Sunday (16th) the Dockers Cup Final at Jenner Park between BV and Tynewydd, 2pm kick off.
