Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 

The Vale of Glamorgan Football League got off to a flyer on a blustery and wet first weekend of the season.

The conditions were autumnal rather than balmy summer weather but it didn’t prevent the drama unfolding.

The big game of the day saw Rhoose and Barry Athletic share eight goals in an enthralling 4-4 draw. In another nail biter Dinas Powys Athletic saw out a 4-3 win against Masons Moving Group. Last seasons runners up St Athan battled to a 3-2 home victory over Island Marine, while newly promoted Tynewydd and Vale United picked up where they left off in division one with opening day wins. Tynewydd running out 2-1 winners over Penarth Town, Vale Utd took the east vale Derby spoils with a 2-0 triumph over Cowbridge Town.

In Division One last seasons champions Cogan Coronation went down to an opening day defeat, losing 3-2 to FC Pumas. Newly promoted Dockers received a baptism of fire as Barry Belgrade defeated them 5-2. Sully Sports notched a thrilling 4-3 win over Cardiff Airport. Newly named SP Billy got life in division one off to a flyer after last seasons relegation, running in a 5-0 win against Glenbrook.

Meanwhile in Division two the big story of the day was BVFC, relegated from division one last season after losing all of their 22 games, it showed the character of the club to keep going and regroup and they reaped the rewards with a thrilling opening day 5-4 victory over Rhoose B. Two other tightly contested games saw Barry Albion winning 3-2 against FC Pumas B and Barry Saints triumphed by the same scoreline against Island Marine B. Last seasons third placed team Cadoxton Imps registered a comfortable 4-1 win over St Athan B.

This week sees four midweek games in division two on Wednesday being played at Barry Sports Centre, Maslin Park and Cwrt Y Vil.

Next weekend sees full schedule of fixtures with Vale United hosting St Athan and Barry Athletic facing Dinas Powys Athletic standing out. Check back here next week for a full round up.
