Vale of Glamorgan Football League Weekend Preview 26/1/19

Only a handful of league games scheduled for this weekend but as temperatures drop the Vale league hots up with a couple of games with potential big permutations on the league.

Premier Division leaders Barry Atheltic play Penarth Town. The last time these two sides met Penarth thumped Atheltic 4-0 but since then Town have only won 1 league game from 4, that has seen their title challenge stutter. Since that 4-0 loss Atheltic saw a slight blip in their title charge but since the turn of the year the leaders are back to winning ways with successive victories and sit 4 points ahead of second place AFC Rhoose.

The other Premier Division game sees Island Marine host Sully Sports at Maslin Park. Island Marine come in with one defeat in four and a win could potentially see them climb to third if Penarth fail to win. Sully Sports sit second bottom but come in off the back of an impressive point away at Cowbridge Town. The two sides previous encounter was a 4-4 thriller.

No Division One league games this weekend but three games in Division Two, where leaders AFC Rhoose B, having won last weeks top of the table clash against St Athan B, now face another tought task as newly second placed Barry Vikings head to Ceri Road. Vikings are very much on the charge having won their last five league games that puts them smack bang in the title picture. The previous meeting between the sides ended in a 3-0 away triumph for Rhoose B on the opening day of the season.

In a mirror of the first teams, Barry Atheltic B host Penarth Town B. Both sides come into the game with near identical league records and are both locked on 19 points, a win is vital for both to keep in touch with the promotion chase.

Finally, St Athan B welcome Cadoxton Athletic to the Paul Lewis Community Ground fresh off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Rhoose B in the huge top of the table clash last week. St Athan B will be desperate to hit back but face an Athletic side who will be hurting after 6 straight league defeats but who won 4-2 in the reverse fixture.

Good luck to all sides competing this weekend and keep your eyes pealed for the full round up over the weekend.
