Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

In the final round of fixtures until the new year it was another exciting weekend in Vale football.

St Athan’s title aspirations took a serious hit as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat to in form Rhoose. Rhoose notching their fourth league win on the bounce. St Athan are now five points adrift of leaders Vale United and played a game more. The only other result in the Premier Division saw Island Marine get back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over bottom side Masons Moving Group. Masons still without a point this season after nine games.

In Division One, league leaders Barry Athletic B routed Glenbrook 8-1, the result sees Athletic B go three points clear at the top although second place Barry Belgrade have two games in hand. Third place FC Pumas lost ground at the top as they were stunned 4-0 by Cadoxton Barry and fourth place SP Billy were held 3-3 by Cardiff Airport, the result lifting Airport off the bottom on goal difference. Dockers continued their good form and made it five games without a loss as they shocked fifth place Cogan Coronation 6-1. Cogan’s inconsistent season continuing, that’s two wins and two defeats in their last four. Another inconsistent side is Sully, they stayed sixth with a 5-3 win over Cadoxton Athletic. With the top four so close together, if Cogan and Sully could find consistent form and with Dockers on a good run, Division One could be wide open in the second half of the season.

In Division Two, Cadoxton Imps’ undefeated run is over as Penarth Town B impressively dispatched them 4-2. Imps first loss in 14 games, they remain four points clear at the top. Penarth B meanwhile find themselves edging into the title race as they are three points behind second with a game in hand. That team in second, Barry Saints, won a ten goal thriller 6-4 over Rhoose B and will be smelling blood in their pursuit of top spot. Finally, Island Marine B made it a good day for the club as they won 2-0 against Barry Albion B to go within a point of fourth with a game in hand.

The league now takes a Christmas break and will return on 7th January, weather permitting of course. From all in the Vale league wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
