Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

It was the first round of the Barry Cup this past weekend with SP Billy causing the upset of the round, as they dumped Premier Division Masons Moving Group out by beating them emphatically 5-2.

Premier Division pace setters Vale United continued their excellent form as they routed Tynewydd an incredible 7-0. In the other all Premier Division clash Rhoose recorded their first win of the season by knocking out Barry Athletic 5-3.

Cowbridge Town, Penarth Town and Island Marine avoided any sort of upset by defeating division one opposition. Cowbridge and Cardiff Airport couldn’t be separated, after 120 minutes it was 2-2 with Town going on to win the dreaded penalty shoot out 4-2. Penarth were victorious 3-1 against local rivals Sully Sports and Island Marine defeated Dockers Reunited 2-1 to advance.

The pair of Division two teams with 100% record continued their tremendous form into the cup, Barry Saints edged out Barry Albion 3-2 while Cadoxton Imps produced a big cup upset when they eliminated Division One league leaders (coming into the weekend) FC Pumas 2-0.

The teams who received a first round bye join the competition in the second round and the draw was made Saturday evening :- Cadoxton Imps vs Island Marine, Cadoxton Barry FC vs Dinas Powys Athletic, Barry Saints vs Vale United, Glenbrook vs St Athan, Cowbridge Town vs Cogan Coronation, BV vs Barry Belgrade, Sp Billy vs AFC Rhoose, Cadoxton Athletic vs Penarth Town. Some intriguing ties and they will be played on 1st October.

There was some league action this week. In Division One Barry Belgrade thumped champions Cogan Coronation 3-0 and Cadoxton Athletic won the Caddy derby against Cadoxton Barry 5-2.

In Division Two BVFC made it two on the bounce as they won 3-0 away to St Athan B to go third. While FC Pumas B got off the mark with their first win of the season to leave AFC Rhoose B bottom of the league still searching for their first point.

Next week sees some great match ups. With the picks of the week being Premier Division league leaders Vale United, and their 100% record, travel to Barry Athletic, second play third as FC Pumas host unbeaten Barry Athletic B in Division One and game of the day may just be in Division Two, with at least one perfect record guaranteed to go, as Barry Saints and Cadoxton Imps collide. Check back here next week for a full round up of the league and cup action.
