Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

The big game of the day saw the top pair in division two go head to head. Both teams came in with 100% records but it was Cadoxton Imps who displayed quite the dominance as they smashed Barry Saints perfect record to bits with a huge 7-2 victory.

Elsewhere in the division it was much more closely contested, St Athan B notched a much needed 2-1 win over Barry Albion, Island Marine B edged out bottom side Rhoose B 1-0 and Penarth B defeated FC Pumas B by the same scoreline.

In division one FC Pumas went top of the league after a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Barry Athletic B. SP Billy bagged a 3-1 over Cadoxton Athletic and Sully won 5-4 in an exciting contest against Dockers. Goals were also aplenty as Glenbrook and Cadoxton Barry gained their first points of the season as they played out a 4-4 draw. Division one champions Cogan saw off Cardiff Airport 3-0 to continue their indifferent start to the season.

Only one game in the Premier Division due to SWFA Intermediate Cup commitments and St Athan vs Penarth Town being postponed at the last second. Newly promoted Vale United continued their fine form as they ran out 1-0 victors over previously unbeaten in the league Barry Athletic.

In the afore mentioned SWFA Intermediate Cup Barry Athletic, St Athan and Vale United received byes into round two but the Vale was well represented in the first round. Rhoose won 4-1 against Cardiff Bay, Dinas Powys Athletic saw off Tonyrefail Welfare 4-0 and Cowbridge Town edged out Star FC 3-2. Unfortunately, Island Marine, Tynewydd and Masons Moving Group were eliminated. Island Marine narrowly losing out 4-3 after extra time to Nelson Cavaliers, Tynny were defeated 3-2 by Talbot Green and Masons went down 4-2 to Cathays Cons.

Next week it’s back to league action. Game of the day in the Premier Division could well be Vale United hosting Rhoose as the home team look to continue their 100% start to the season. In the First Division it has to be Barry Athletic B vs Sully Sports and in the Second Division the mid table clash of Penarth B vs Island Marine B could be a very tightly contested game. Check back here next week for a full round up of the league action.
