Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

It was Barry Cup quarter final weekend and there was a fine mix of a big game, a shock result and big scores as four teams progressed to the semi finals in March. There was also a reduced league schedule but nonetheless entertaining.

The Vale United juggernaut rolled on as they made it 12 out of 12 in all competitions by defeating their biggest test so far, nearest rivals St Athan 3-1, in the big match of the day and must now be clear favourites for the cup. Their old rivals Barry Belgrade pulled off somewhat of a cup upset to dump out Premier Division Cowbridge Town 4-1 while Island Marine cruised into the last four convincingly winning 5-0 against division one Cadoxton Barry. Finally Rhoose completed the semi final line up with a 3-1 away win against Penarth Town in an all Premier Divison clash.

In the Premier Division Barry Athletic got back to winning ways in some style with an 8-0 win over bottom side Masons Moving Group who are still searching for their first point. Dinas Powys Athletic got their first win after three league defeats with a moral boosting 3-0 victory over Tynewydd.

In Division One, Cogan Coronation bounced back after last weeks set back to romp home 5-1 against bottom of the league Glenbrook to go fifth. Dockers and Cadoxton Athletic played out a thrilling 3-3 draw while SP Billy were victorious 5-3 against Sully, SP were the only team in the top four in action, the result keeps them fourth buy they are four points off leaders FC Pumas with a game in hand.

In Division Two, league leaders Cadoxton Imps beat Barry Albion 2-0 to stretch their 100% record to eleven games and go nine points clear of Barry Saints, who lost 4-2 to second bottom Rhoose B in a shock result. St Athan B made it two on the bounce as they put third place BVFC to the sword 4-1 to go fifth.

Next week there are no senior fixtures after the FAW postponed the games due to the national team playing Serbia in the evening.

The league returns on 19th November with a full league schedule with games of the day coming in Division One and Two. Division One Champions Cogan host league leaders FC Pumas and the top two on Division Two play each other as Cadoxton Imps face Barry Saints, a must win for the latter.

Check back here in two weeks for a full round up.
