Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

Vale of Glamorgan Senior Football League Round Up

It was a busy week in the Vale League over the past seven days with plenty of action and a lot of goals.

Last Wednesday saw games played in the first and second division, notably Cogan edged out rivals Sully 3-2, Barry Atheltic B faced Dockers and Barry Belgrade played SP Billy with the home side in both games running out 4-3 winners.

Onto this past weekend and Premier Division action. League leaders Vale United continued their impressive flawless start with a 5-0 win over Tynewydd, an impressive feat as Tynny held the best league defence across all three divisions last season conceding only 22 goals all season. St Athan got back to winning ways with a 3-1 west vale derby win over Cowbridge Town while Barry Athletic went second with a 5-1 victory over Masons Moving Group who are still searching for their first point of the campaign. Elsewhere Rhoose and Island Marine played out a 1-1 draw while Penarth bagged a big away win at Dinas Powys Athletic, beating them 5-2.

In the first division it was a battle of Wednesday’s winners and Barry Atheltic B took the spoils over Barry Belgrade with a 5-2 victory. Cogan and SP Billy played out a thrilling 4-4 draw while FC Pumas went goal crazy with an 8-3 triumph against Cardiff Airport. The scoreline of 10-2 doesn’t come along too often but like buses two come along at once as Dockers and Sully both won their games by that scoreline against Glenbrook and Cadoxton Barry respectively.

Division two saw Cadoxton Imps go top on goal difference with an 8-3 win over Rhoose B to continue their 100% record. Barry Saints kept their perfect start going with a 5-1 victory over third place Barry Albion. Penarth B get back on track with a 6-2 home win against St Athan B as the away team failed to capitalise on a 5-0 win in the week, and BVFC continued their inconsistent form with a 6-2 triumph over Island Marine B.

Next week sees a mixture of Barry Cup first round action and league fixtures for some teams who have received a bye. Stand out ties see Sully head to Penarth and Dockers go over the Island to play Island Marine, could we see a couple of upsets from the division one teams. The two all Premier Division ties see Barry Athletic play Rhoose and Tynewydd get to look for instant pay back as they host Vale United.

Check back here next week for a full round up of the league and cup action.
