Holton Road Promoted

  • VoGAFL Champions Holton Road have been promoted to the SWFA Alliance League after winning their SWFA play off game against Caerau All Whites in emphatic fashion at Penybont’s Bryntirion Park.
  • The Play Offs see the champion clubs of the many local leagues in South Wales compete for the three available promotion spots up to the SWFA Alliance League (tier 6 of Welsh football), this season 8 teams applied and entered the play offs. Last weekend Caerau All Whites, the Bridgend league champions, saw off Ferndale of the Rhondda league 4-2 to earn the right to play VoGAFL winners Holton Road, who went straight into the final play off game after having the best points per game average in south wales.
  • Holton Road proved too strong and clinically dispatched Caerau All Whites 5-1. Ben Pearce made the all important break through right on half time but the All Whites levelled through Sam Jenkins shortly after the restart, however, on the hour mark Holton retook the lead through Tyrell Williams and didn’t look back. Ben Pearce notched his second this time from the spot before Sam Adamson and star man Paul Morgan completed the scoring to book Holton Road’s place in the Alliance League next season. A fantastic achievement for the club this season and now they turn their attention to this Thursdays Barry Cup Final against AFC Rhoose at Jenner Park 6:30 kick off.
  • Holton Road Reserves also had an excellent season and third place in the VoGAFL Championship was confirmed without kicking a ball as Tynewydd lost 3-1 to Island Marine Reserves.
